Remember, how people treat you is because of who they are, rather than who you are. They express their nature in their actions. Even when you are supposed to have wronged them and put them under significant pressure you still have a choice as to how to act. Many people excuse their actions by claiming a response to your initial reaction; “You made me do it.” Perhaps this is true. But this does not negate the fact that their actions are an expression of their nature, which has nothing to do with you. An orange will always give you orange juice and a lime, lime juice. No matter the situation one is likely to be sweet, the other sour. (more…)

Flowing water will eventually get to its destination, no matter what stands in its way. As soon as a direction has been established, it may stall for a time, adapt to the shapes on its path but eventually, it will soak its way through all obstacles—quietly.

Growing up in Africa, I loved the heavy tropical rains. For one, it saved me from outdoor chores. I loved the sound of rain on corrugated iron sheet roofs. It induced sleep. I also loved to watch the initial runoff. I remember how quickly it would adapt to and then proceed to destroy everything in its path. (more…)
